- Wikipedia
- The encyclopedia that anyone can edit is a suprisingly accurate source of information. I use this site regularly when I want a quick answer to "what is ____?" I think of Wikipedia as the poster child for all that the Internet is supposed to be - representing democracy, promoting free speech, and free (of charge).
- Slashdot
- The essential geek news site. I check this regularly to learn about current events in the open source community, and to get informed about various issues regarding digital freedom in the context of our increasingly interconnected world.
- Astronomy Picture of the Day
- Every day NASA posts a new astronomical photograph or painting online.
